Aimee is one of Good Hope Psychological Service’s registered counsellors at their Paarl branch. Their office is at the TC Newman Memorial Hospital’s Psychiatric Section.

This bright and cheerful young woman was born in Newlands, Cape Town, was raised in Stellenbosch and went to the well known Rhenish Girls’ High School.

She did her undergrad at Stellenbosch University majoring in Psychology and Ancient Cultures. Thereafter she also did two honours degrees – one at Stellenbosch and one at Cornerstone Institute where she was able to register as a counsellor with the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa).

After Aimee’s academic honours she did a year of full time ministry, followed by a year working for her parents’ business where she started her own little business selling washing lines. (You can’t accuse her of laziness!)

However, her passion for counselling didn’t fade during this time and she returned to varsity and obtained her BPsych in 2016 and 2017. In 2018 she opened her own practice and also started to work for GHPS.

At GHPS she works individually with adults, adolescents and children. It entails to often work with trauma, depression, grief and behavioural issues – all great challenges to facilitate.

Aimee’s main passion is working with children. She loves creating a safe space for them to express their inner worlds. “It really is amazing to witness,” says Aimee. She also enjoys her colleagues and manager who are a great support system. They have a wealth of knowledge and experience which they freely share with Aimee.

The greatest challenges for her are being confronted with systems that are under-resourced. Aimee explains, “We at Good Hope are often the last hope for people, and to try and find suitable help for them in their communities is quite a challenge.”

Aimee enjoys her rich community of family and friends; the source from where she is energized to be able to do this demanding work .
