Good Hope Psychological Service (GHPS)
We are passionate about contributing to the healing and well-being of our fellow South Africans. In a country where many have suffered trauma and psychological hardship, and do not have equal access to support, GHPS offers accessible and donation-based mental health support.

How We Work?
Referrals
We receive referrals from various sources, as well as self-referrals.
Our Waiting List
Referrals are placed on the waiting list in the order that they are received.
Scheduling Appointment
Once a mental health practitioner is available, we will contact you in order to schedule your first appointment at our offices in Stellenbosch or Paarl.
Counselling Sessions
After a screening/intake consultation, you will attend either weekly individual counselling sessions, goup sessions, or be referred to more appropriate service providers.
Our Services Give Hope
COMMUNITIES
We holistically support individuals, families and communities to overcome trauma and other personal challenges that impact emotional well-being and healthy functioning.
Projects in this programme include:
- A support group for psychiatric patients, run by Sara van Tonder in Paarl.

- Psycho-educational groups
- Training opportunities for intern educational psychologists and registered counsellors.
- Collaboration with community organisations by providing training and support regarding trauma and mental health
VICTIMS
We provide survivors of violent and sexual crimes (children and adults) with the opportunity to recover, heal and grow.
- Working with both children and adults who were sexually abused
- Counselling victims of domestic violence and violent crimes.
YOUTH
We aim to strengthen families and to assist vulnerable children and young adults to overcome emotional and/or behavioural difficulties that impact their overall well-being
Projects in this programme includes:
- Supporting Cloetesville Primary and Pniel Primary schools with providing a counsellor one day a week
- Providing therapeutic support and play therapy at our offices
- Parental guidance and parenting skills
- Trauma counselling for children and adolescents
- Providing learning development for learners as needed
- Taking part in youth empowerment projects
